Future of shopping? Aldi is testing a controversial payment system without a checkout. Customers check in and out of the Aldi branch using a QR code.

The purchases can then be stored directly in the bags or backpacks they have brought with them. The purchase is completed contactlessly and cashier-free by scanning the code again when leaving the store. This principle has been tested in an Aldi store in Utrecht, Netherlands, since 2022. There is no adjusted range or different prices than in conventional Aldi branches.
