Bananas are perennial plants and as such are very sensitive to pressure. It is best to store bananas in the shade because direct sunlight also accelerates ripening. Apples and bananas don't mix. The ideal storage place for bananas is actually the pantry or the cellar. If the bananas do turn brown, they are by no means destined for the organic waste bin. Brown bananas contain a particularly high amount of sugar.
