Since January 1, the Atlantic coast has been the scene of massive strandings of dead or weakened offshore birds. Volunteers from the Bird Protection League (LPO) have been finding these offshore birds for several weeks.

“For five weeks, our teams have been patrolling the beaches of Vendée and we have counted more than 130 corpses of guillemots on a single portion of 120 km of beaches,” adds the French branch of the environmental association Sea Shepherd. The data collected since the start of the year clearly indicates high mortality, with nearly 250 murres stranded.
