Pine beetle caterpillars can cause irritation to the skin and eyes. Contact with hands and eyes should be avoided, as it burns.

The caterpillar got its name as a result of its favorite pine trees/Omer Golan, KKL-Junk. The National Fund for Israel warns travelers against the pine processionary (also known as the "Twie the procession"), as it likes pine trees and is especially found in forests. The larvae are found in most of the pine forests in Israel.
