Le Parisien draws up a list of the best French cities to spend a weekend as a pedestrian. The essential element when you don't have a car is to be able to be mobile, says Didier Arino, associate general director at the Protourisme firm.

Large metropolises are organized to allow fluid mobility without a car, says Arino. We should not expect to see small towns at the top of the ranking, he adds. The list is compiled by combining a panel of data ranging from travel time to the number of museums and restaurants.
