Iran attacked Israel on Saturday, further aggravating the current situation in the Middle East. After the attack, fears of a wildfire are growing.

An expert classifies the situation. Ulrich Schlie, member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the North Rhine-Westphalia Academy for International Politics, gives an assessment of what effects could follow. Schlie: "The situation is extremely dangerous. Much will depend on whether Iran decides to engage in further provocations and how its proxies Red.] respond. I think the risk of a war into a conflagration I think is very very real. I expect an appropriately harsh and drastic reaction. Those in power in Tehran only understand the language of power," says Schlie. "I expect that Iran will do everything it can to weaken Israel and the United States," he adds. "The best way to prevent the spiral of violence from spiraling out of control is determination, deterrence and unity," Schlie says. "Israel would be well advised to prepare for this worst-case scenario too," he says.
