Marennes-Oléron oysters have recorded a 50% drop in sales since the end-of-year holidays. Spared by the norovirus which struck - among others - the Arcachon basin (Gironde), Manche and Calvados.

More than 40,000 tonnes of oysters are refined each year - almost 45% of national production. These seawater basins specific to Charente-Maritime make it possible to confine the oysters and limit any norov virus infection spread by wastewater networks and treatment plants.
