Hissam Hussein Dehaini is mayor of Araucaria in the state of Parana in southeastern Brazil. He married the 16-year-old student shortly after their 16th birthday.
The bride's mother was appointed the city's Minister of Culture and Tourism two days before the big day. Hissam reportedly resigned from the Civic Party, which he joined in 2009 when it was still called the Socialist People's Party. He is now to govern as a non-party.
