Nearly 30 trucks from the Veolia company have abandoned diesel in favor of a biofuel made from the recycling of edible oils and animal fats. These trucks are responsible in particular for collecting household waste from residents of the towns of Cugnaux and Villeneuve-Tolosane, south of the Pink City.

The fleet also covers public establishments such as the Toulouse University Hospital. The biofuel used by Veolia trucks reduces CO2 emissions by 70% compared to standard fuel and emissions of fine particles, a very important source of air pollution, by 12%. This fleet of 30 trucks will travel nearly 600,000 km this year with this biofuel, supplied by the company Altens. “After the Hautes-Pyrénées which are already equipped with it, our objective is to switch to biofuel 40% of our truck fleet in the Occitanie and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions by the end of 2024,” indicates Sophie Delage, director of Veolia Recycling & Waste Recovery South-West region.
