46.4% of American adults are single, this includes those who are divorced, widowed, and those who have never married, despite being in a formal relationship for some time. The state with the highest proportion of singles is New Mexico, while Utah has the lowest rate of singles, at only 44.7%. Pennsylvania is the state where one in four adults have never been married.
