Art 1 of Constitution says republic is one - Mattarella - Politics. President Sergio Mattarella told web creators at the presidential Quirinale Palace Wednesday that article one of the Italian Constitution states that the Italian republic is single and indivisible.
"I chose Article 1 which opens the Constitution because it is summarizing five elements: one; republic; democracy; labor and popular sovereignty. One, not just an article, means that Italy is one, not a sum of republics," he said.
