Ilias Akoudad, 22, was sentenced on March 1 to 30 years in prison by the Vaucluse Assize Court, with a security period of 20 years. He killed brigadier Éric Masson in 2021 in Avignon in broad daylight, by shooting him while carrying out a street drug surveillance operation with his teammate.

The two police officers were in civilian clothes. After having long denied being the perpetrator of the shooting, he ended up confessing, while claiming not to have understood that it was police officers.
