Several Gulf Arab countries recalled their diplomats to Beirut in October 2021 in retaliation after a Lebanese minister criticized Saudi Arabia's intervention in the war in Yemen. Acting Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati immediately "welcomed this decision, in the context of fraternal relations between the two countries" The decision comes amid regional diplomatic breakthroughs, following the surprise announcement in March of a deal between Saudi Arabia and Iran, two rival regional powers, under the auspices of China.

"The Kingdom of Bahrain has decided to resume its diplomatic representation at the ambassadorial level to the brotherly Lebanese Republic," the Bahraini official statement said.
