Bavaria's smallest community is shrinking: “We are becoming fewer and fewer”. Jachenau is Bavaria's largest municipality with its own administration.

In 2023 the population fell again. There were more deaths than births in the community of 800. The municipality only collected 768 euros in cross-country ski trail fees in 2023, compared to 45,022 euros in the previous year. According to the treasurer, the debt amounted to 1.4 million euros at the end of 2023.
