Vincent De Wolf, mayor of the Belgian municipality of Etterbeek, wants to ban electric scooters between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m to fight drug trafficking.

“It’s a very easy and quick way because you can use paths, small paths, sidewalks…” explains Vincent De Wolf to our colleagues at Bruzz. He also wants the measure to be extended to the entire region, by being adopted by the Conference of Mayors or by the Minister-President. The mayor of Anderlecht, Fabrice Cumps, believes that it must remain local. The measure is already in force in part of its municipality, coupled with a speed limit of 10 km/h in the Peterbos district. The ban is expected to be implemented by the end of the year, with a possible extension to the rest of the country in the spring of 2015. It is expected that the ban will be implemented in the Belgian capital, Brussels.
