Ceta, a free trade treaty between the EU and Canada, must be ratified on Thursday by the Senate. The treaty, approved by the European Parliament in 2017, has been applied provisionally for seven years.

But although it was narrowly ratified in July 2019 by the National Assembly, the text was never submitted for ratification by senators.
