Voting for the first round of the Chadian presidential election will take place on May 6. This election will mark the end of the transition and the mandate of Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno.

He was appointed at the head of a junta of 15 generals after the death of his father. He had promised to return power to civilians by organizing elections 18 months later, a deadline ultimately postponed by two years. The election will be held on the same day as the parliamentary elections.
