For the election, 49 votes are needed in parliament, the coalition of CDU, SPD and FDP together has 56. Most recently, in June 2023, the lawyer Daniel Neugebauer failed to receive the required majority in the state parliament in three attempts. Why there weren't enough votes in the end remained unclear after the secret ballots.
