Fire departments in Unterallgäu are comparatively well positioned. A total of 5,598 people aged 18 and over work on a voluntary basis in the district.
The fire department in Wineden had to be disbanded in 2023 because, among other things, no commander could be found. At least 327 women are active in the fire departments themselves, and there are an additional 90 girls in the youth fire departments. The women's work department is not yet staffed at the district level.
