Iodine-ion batteries are a "sustainable alternative" to lithium batteries. This is what emerged from a conference promoted in Milan by RSE, the Energy System Research company.
RSE is indirectly controlled by the Ministry of Economy through the sole shareholder GSE, with the patronage of the Lombardy region. The main advantage of sodium ion technology is that it offers an opportunity for sustainability in terms of the use of non-critical materials. The first of these is sodium, an "abundant and distributed element in nature, unlike lithium"
