Nahal Brigadier General Yonathan Steinberg was killed in an encounter with terrorists on October 7. His weapon was found alongside items belonging to other abductees in the heart of Khan Yunis.
The activity in the area was led by the commando brigade, which continues to operate there to exhaust the search for senior Hamas officials and Israeli prisoners and missing people. During Operation "Guardian of the Walls" Steinberg served as Brigadier Benjamin, where he fought in a firefight against a number of armed men.
