The West condemned the invasion of Ukraine, assuring it of its support and imposing unprecedented sanctions on the aggressor. The objectives of the latter were clear: to hit Russia in the wallet and limit its access to Western technology. But that did not work. Not because Russia is stronger than previously thought, but because of a combination of indiscipline and inconsistency.
