Iran: two young women who danced in public arrested for “breaking social norms”. A video in which two women dance in the streets of Tehran has gone viral on social media as Islamic law prohibits mixed or single women dancing in public.
These two women were dressed as Hadji Firouz, a folkloric character dressed in red whose dance and songs announce the arrival of Nowrouz, the Iranian New Year which begins on March 20 this year. Numerous videos of women dancing have gone viral in Iran in recent months, after the protest movement which shook Iran at the end of 2022.
