The Iranian ambassador to France was summoned Monday to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ambassador, Mohammad Amin-Nejad, was reminded “with the greatest firmness” of the French condemnation of the attack perpetrated by Iran.

“France is working with its partners to de-escalate and calls on everyone to exercise restraint,” says the Quai d'Orsay. Four French people are still detained in Iran, with Paris calling them “state hostages” Several European countries, including Germany, the Czech Republic and Belgium, also summoned the ambassador to their soil on Monday to express their condemnation. This was Iran's first direct attack on Israel. The attack was in response to an April 1 strike on the consular annex of the Iranian embassy in Damascus (Syria) attributed to Israel. Almost all of the missiles and drones were destroyed before hitting Israeli territory, with the exception of a few that were intercepted by the Israeli military and returned to the Iranian Embassy in Tehran.
