Researchers in Morocco discovered by chance the footprints of a group of people who apparently looked just like us - but lived more than 90,000 years ago. The 85 imprints were found in 2022 by researchers surveying rock formations on the coast near the northern tip of Morocco.

Analysis of the footprints revealed that they were made by anatomically modern humans who lived in the area during the late Pleistocene era. The footprints were exposed in a part of the beach that is covered most of the time by ocean water, and is occasionally exposed thanks to low tide. However, threats of erosion cause difficulties in deciphering the lives of those ancient humans.
