In 2023 Italian GDP grew by 0.7% over 2022 after adjustments for calendar effects and seasonal adjustments, ISTAT said. There were two fewer working days in 2023 compared to the previous year.

The government indicated growth of 0.8% for last year in its NADEF update to its DEF economic and financial blueprint, presented in September. Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti later said the economy could slow as result of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza and therefore that the forecast could be revised down.
