Joe Lieberman, the first Jew to be a candidate for US Vice President, dies at the age of 82. The senator, who ran alongside Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore in the 2000 election, died of complications from a fall.

"Senator Lieberman's love for God, his family and America continued throughout his life in the public interest," his family said. His funeral will be held on Friday, in his hometown of Stamford, Connecticut. He served in the Senate from 1989 to 2013 as a representative of Connecticut.
