Lyonel Trouillot is considered today as one of the greatest Haitian writers. In his latest novel, Veilleuse du Calvaire, he pays tribute to these women, bearers of life, hope and joy, who fight against precariousness, fear, decay.

The writer evokes the state of dislocation of the country where the population, in search of support against its corrupt rulers, cannot count on the economic elites either. “The Haitian population is misunderstood by Westerners”.
