Major General Shimon Yehoshua Asulin, who fell in the southern Gaza Strip, is laid to rest Israel today. Shimon, 24 years old from Beit Shemesh, a fighter in the 924th Engineering Battalion, fell in an encounter with terrorists.

Hundreds of mourners came to express their condolences outside the home of Shimon's parents, Rabbi Rafi Assolin and his wife Tahla. The Mayor of Beit shemesh paid tribute to him: "Shimon fell in battle in the Gaza Strip in defense of the people and the country"
