The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has arrived at the University of Trieste. During a ceremony in the Aula Magna, he will be awarded an honorary degree in Law.

With the President is his daughter Laura. The ceremony will be attended by the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, and the rector of the University, Roberto Di Lenarda. The President will also be awarded the honorary degree by the former President of Slovenia, Borut Pahor. The event will take place in the university's Aula Magna, in front of a crowd of 1,000 people. The University is located in Piazzale Europa, where the president of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, is also in attendance. It is the first time the President has visited the University since he became President of Italy in 2009. The University is located in the city centre, in the area known as the JanPalach district.
