Four Japanese cherry trees were cut down on the town hall square in Meaux. They had been planted in the 1960s and were approximately 70 years old.

Originally there were eight of them and for ten months only four. The town hall had the first two trees felled on April 24. The second salvo was to take place in October. It was finally postponed until Monday morning. Residents were kept informed by municipal letters slipped into their mailboxes and posted online. The majority cites two phytosanitary expertises to justify the decision.
