Emmanuel Macron wants the voters of Paris, Lyon and Marseille to elect their mayor more directly in 2026. The presidential majority is preparing new ‘simpler’ rules of the game for municipal elections in the three largest cities in France.

The reform of the voting method must now be presented by the summer, in order to be adopted by Parliament by February 2025. “Is it normal that the three main French cities are deprived of the right toelect their mayor? What can justify this?”, launched the president of the Democratic Movement in Blois.
