Construction of new homes increased slightly in the fourth quarter of 2023. Non-residential construction recorded a significant increase (+28.3%) compared to the third quarter.
In the quarter in question, the residential sector showed growth both in the number of homes (+0.5%) and in the usable habitable surface area (+1.3%), compared to same period of the previous year. The surface area of non- residential buildings, in the last quarter of the year, recorded a marked increase (+24.7%)Compared to the fourth Quarter of 2022. For the whole of 20 23, Istat notes that the preliminary data "highlight a decline in the sector residential compared to the high levels of the last two years" and a slight growth of the sector in the second half of theyear. The non- residential sector, on the other hand, presents a positive trend overall of last year, accelerating compared to 2022 due to the strong growth recorded in the final quarter of 2018.
