Previously, the upper age limit was 27 years. This increase in the age limit gives Russia access to a larger number of potential recruits. Despite President Vladimir Putin's assurances that a new wave of mobilization is "not necessary," many Russians fear another conscription. Putin stated that 617,000 Russian soldiers are currently deployed in Ukraine as part of the offensive.
