Study examined data of more than half a million dogs. Small purebred dogs with elongated noses live longer than dogs with flat faces.

The dachshund has a life expectancy of 13.3 years on average, compared to only 11.2 years among the other type of dog. Large dogs live less than small ones, with the length of the dog's nose having an effect on this. The researchers were unable to successfully test the different types of dogs involved because of the many breeds involved.
