Major General Shimon Yehoshua Assolin, 24 years old from Beit Shemesh, was killed in an encounter with terrorists in the southern Gaza Strip. Shimon was a fighter in the 924th Engineering Battalion of the Harel Brigade.
His family has been notified. The army said: "The IDF shares in the family's grief and will continue to accompany it." Mayor Bloch: "This is a deep-rooted family and role models in the city community"
