Senegalese President Macky Sall has postponed the presidential election indefinitely. Parliament voted in a chaotic atmosphere on a bill aimed at postponing the vote until December 15, 2024.

This is a first in Senegal, considered an island of democratic stability in a region prey to military coups. In power since 2012, Sall announced in July 2023 that he would not run for a third term, as provided for in the Constitution. He was supposed to leave power on April 2.
