A study by Prognos AG on behalf of the WWF shows that a heat pump is cheaper than a gas heater when compared realistically. The initial boom in demand for heat pumps has leveled off.

More than twice as many gas heaters are still being installed. The heat pump association cites political reasons such as capping or changing subsidies, which lead to uncertainty among customers. The strongly fluctuating electricity prices prevent 60 percent from switching to heat pumps. 76 percent of those surveyed would like the electricity costs for heat pump to be specifically reduced.
