The Washington Post cited intelligence revealed in the major Pentagon leak that a European spy agency had informed the CIA about the Ukrainian program as early as last June. In September, the Nord Stream pipelines were blown up and put out of commission.

Kyiv denies they are responsible. The newspaper noted Tuesday that it cited intelligence information that was part of classified documents leaked this year by a computer technician in the U.S. National Guard. The leaked documents indicated that an unnamed European intelligence agency told the CIA in June 2022 that a Ukrainian diver force under the direct command of the country's military commander was planning to damage the pipelines.
