Many economists, employers and some CDU social politicians want to raise the retirement age. A new study shows that a higher retirement age can have serious consequences for the population.

The pension system is on the verge of collapse due to demographic change – and urgently needs to be reformed. 4.5 million people in Germany are already receiving a disability pension or have been disabled and are now retired. Their risk of poverty is twice as high as that of the entire population, according to a study by DIW Berlin.
