Sarthe: opening of an investigation after the defenestration of elected officials frightened by firecrackers. The facts took place during a municipal council meeting in Challes, near Le Mans, last Thursday.
One of the elected officials suffered significant fractures and was hospitalized. According to the Ministry of the Interior, there were 2,387 attacks against elected officials between January and November 2023, a figure up compared to the whole of 2022 (2,265). A Senate bill adopted at the beginning of October aligns the criminal sanctions provided for in the event of an attack against an elected official with those already imposed when targeting a person holding public authority.
