Sebastián Piñera died in an accident in his helicopter in the commune of Lago Ranco, Los Ríos Region. President Gabriel Boric ordered that he be fired with state funeral honors.

Three days of national mourning decreed to honor the memory of who was elected president of Chile on two occasions. There were three other crew members on the aircraft in which the former president was traveling who managed to get out and reach the shore by their own means and be safe.
