Senegal has been experiencing tensions since President Macky Sall postponed the presidential election scheduled for February 25. The text was confirmed by a law passed Monday in the National Assembly postponing the poll to December 2024 and maintaining the president in his post until then.

The Minister of Justice, Aïssata Tall Sall, says: "We have never asked the Assembly to postpone this election. This is not an initiative of the executive, even less of the president" The postponement came from an opposition group which considered that its candidate, Karim Wade, would have been ousted in an unusual manner.
