Queen Mary was accompanied by her private secretary Henriette Ellermann-Kingombe. In the end, Denmark narrowly lost to France 31:33 in the European Championship final. Mary and Frederik both missed the semi-final, in which Denmark knocked hosts Germany out of the tournament, and, according to Se og Hør, preferred to attend a performance of a play in Copenhagen.
