He headed the vascular surgery clinic at the Rechts der Isar Clinic for almost 20 years. The popular doctor and university professor died of cancer at the age of 68 - just a few months after leaving his position as head of vascular surgery at Ismaninger Strasse. With Eckstein, the renowned model hospital of the Technical University of Munich has already lost its third clinic director in a few years.
