Mount Etna, Europe's most active volcano, erupted on Sunday, covering entire parts of Sicily's largest city — Catania — in a cloud of volcanic ash. As a result of the situation, flights at the city's airport were even stopped.

So far, no injuries have been reported from the lava and ash. In 2021, a similar outbreak lasted several weeks, and the institute warned of a "sudden" change that may occur in light of the frequent eruptions of the mountain.
