The country is planning an emergency loan of over 1.5 billion euros. The consequences of the corona pandemic, the high costs resulting from Russia's war of aggression on Ukraine and the storm surge on the Baltic Sea coast cannot be financed within the regular budget.

“The amount of the emergency loan shows what extraordinarily challenging times we live in,” said Finance Minister Monika Heinold (Greens) on Tuesday in Kiel. The first savings are therefore included in the 2024 budget - more must follow in the 2025 budget.
