The government intends to reform state medical aid for foreigners at a minimum. The AME allows foreigners in an irregular situation to benefit from 100% coverage of medical care.

During discussions on the immigration law, the debate heated up on the AME. The right wanted to replace it with emergency medical aid (AMU), refocused on the prophylaxis and treatment of serious illnesses and urgent care. The left was hostile to any reform. And the majority was divided on the subject. For its part, the medical profession, almost unanimously, affirmed that it would continue to treat any patient who presented with a health problem.
