The housing complex, built by financier John Donahue for his family of 13 children and 84 grandchildren, is located on a 60-acre area known as Gordon Pointe, in Naples, Florida. The main house was built around 1989 and two other homes were added later.

For decades the property hosted figures such as President George HW Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush. The most expensive house sold in the United States to date was acquired in 2019: it is a penthouse in Manhattan, for which about $240 million was paid.
