At the Théâtre de l'Essaïon, Catherine Aymerie makes Balzac's famous short story an endearing show. The Unknown Masterpiece is about thirty pages, a brilliant droplet in the romantic ocean of the colossus.

Michel Favart's staging favours the imagination: a setting that marks neither the period in which the story of the three painters (1612) nor that of Balzac is played. We are therefore at the beginning of the seventeenth century, in Paris, rue des Grands-Augustins.
